Some of you were lucky enough to check your messages on PSN the other day, only to find $10 PSN Points voucher waiting for you. We had originally posted the news as the points were being spotted, attached to a message from Sony, on Tuesday, February 19th.
My original post stated:
My husband checked his messages on our PlayStation 3 and found a message that included a $10 voucher that is good for use in the PlayStation Store. The message thanked him for being a loyal customer and fan of the PlayStation Network and goes on to offer a token of appreciation.
I'm not too sure if these are randomly generated because both my husband and myself have had PlayStation Plus for the same amount of time and he received one, while I didn't. However, I would recommend running to check your messages to see if you have one waiting for you! It could also be that they are sent in waves, but I'm not entirely sure on that.
Since then, we have had numerous asking them how it is determined on who receives these vouchers. I reached out to Sony and to end the head scratching. I received a response from a Sony representative who works on the PSN side of the account:
Thanks for reaching out. While we don't disclose the exact criteria used, we can say that select active PSN users were chosen to receive an XMB message that included a credit for their SEN Wallet as part of this special promotion.
Unfortunately, we will not find out how those selected were chosen. However, those who were, enjoy your points because, as I pointed out previously, not only do they reward PlayStation Plus members with free games and great discounts, but now a $10 voucher for the PlayStation Store? That's above and beyond for me, considering we've only had the service for two years. On the other hand, we've had Xbox LIVE, since it launched and even converted it to a family plan, and the only thing that we can say that we have gotten nothing but the online service we pay for. I take it back, we did get an avatar helmet thanking us for our payments over a ten year span.
