Having failed to make an impression on the smartphone market the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has added OnLive game streaming compatibility

Having suffered a wholly undramatic introduction to existence with a flurry of bad reviews and poor sales the gaming centric Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been handed a new lease of life with an OnLive application released for the Android handset.
Following on from the launch of the OnLive iOS and Android applications earlier this month that allow the subscription based game streaming service to play core titles via the web on their Apple iDevices and Android tablets and smartphones, the gaming giant has released a software patch allowing for full compatibility of the Xperia Play?s inbuilt PS3-esque gaming controls.
"From the moment we launched our OnLive Android app, gamers began asking about Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY game control support," said Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO.
"We listened and delivered. Now Xperia PLAY gamers in the US and UK can play almost all of OnLive's 200 premium titles-including hit AAA games like Saints Row: The Third and Assassin's Creed: Revelations-on their Xperia PLAY smartphone with a full console-class experience, including multiplayer and social features."

Launched to much hype but little fanfare earlier in the year the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play features a distinctly average array of specs with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread device boasting a 1GHz single-core processor and just 512MB of RAM.
As well as its PlayStation certified gaming credentials the Xperia Play?s entertainment appeal is handled by the inclusion of a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera whilst a 4-inch LCD touchscreen display handles the visuals. A mere 400MB of internal storage is bolstered by the boxed inclusion of an 8GB SD card.
