The United Nations (UN) has implored Fifa, the governing body to world football, to do its utmost to ensure that the World Cup in 2014 is the greenest yet.
The organisation has been conducting a study of the last World Cup in South Africa and has, subsequently, developed a number of proposals to make the next edition and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro more environmentally friendly.
A segment of the report read: "The investment in environmental management is not sufficient. This issue needs to be addressed by Fifa."
"Fifa should consider compensating for its own carbon footprint and encourage its partners to do the same."
On the pitch, meanwhile, Brazil continue their preparations for the World Cup tonight (October 10th), when they play a friendly game against Iraq in Sweden.
The game will see Brazilian legend Kaka return to the squad, having been omitted from the team since the Fifa World Cup in 2010.
