(Reuters) ? Three Albuquerque schools were under lockdown or were restricting student movements on Monday afternoon "due to a SWAT situation in the area," the Albuquerque Public Schools website said.
Garfield Middle School was on lockdown and Valley High School and Griegos Elementary School were under "shelter-in-place," which is similar to a lockdown except that students can move around inside their classrooms and can take supervised restroom breaks, the website said.
School officials were asking that parents of the middle and high school students avoid the area but said parents of elementary school students could pick their children up if they sign them out at the office.
School officials did not give details on the website about the SWAT situation.
