Google leaks Nexus Q video and images ahead of I/O keynote

Nexus Q images leak

Speaking of Google-related leaks, we've got another one for you. After a bit of digging, we were able to hunt down some images of the rumored Nexus Q, and it now seems inevitable that we'll be getting some up close and personal time with this particular device after today's keynote session. According to some documents found by Droid-Life, the Nexus Q will have some interaction with YouTube, Google Play Movies, Play Music and TV, and will require the use of a phone or tablet running Gingerbread or higher.

Update: it looks like the official product page on the Google Play Store has been updated. So here's the details: the Nexus Q lets you stream music and movies from Google Play and YouTube to your home entertainment system. It offers a 25W amp, enabling you to power it to a set of speakers, or you can hook it up to an AV receiver or HDTV. According to the product page, the Nexus Q will be available for $300. So far it appears to be a US-only product, so we'll have to wait and see if more is revealed at the I/O keynote session. Check out the video after the break!

China's Ai Weiwei threatened with bigamy, pornography charges

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese police told dissident artist Ai Weiwei on Thursday he could face bigamy and pornography charges and barred him from travel, despite lifting strict bail conditions imposed after his detention.

Ai, who left his house on Thursday for the first time in a year without having to report his whereabouts to police, was held for 81 days without charge in April 2011 mainly in solitary confinement until his conditional release last year.

"If getting back half of my freedom means I'm free, then I'm a free person," Ai said. "But they're restricting my ability to travel and still trying to fabricate crimes."

The threats against Ai underscore Beijing's efforts to muzzle China's most prominent critic and are likely to spark an outcry among his supporters and the international community, which has taken a close interest in his case.

China is sensitive to any threat to Communist Party rule and clamps down on all dissent, illustrated by the recent furor over the flight from house arrest by blind activist Chen Guangcheng.

Ai told Reuters that the restrictions of his bail, linked to suspected economic crimes, were lifted on Thursday but police said he could not travel as he is "suspected of other crimes" including pornography, bigamy and illicit exchange of foreign currency.

Police in Beijing were not immediately available for comment.

"WE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED EACH OTHER"

Ai said police brought up a photograph that Ai had taken in 2010, sitting next to four women, all five of them naked, in a studio pose. Police told Ai that a file of the photograph had been opened online more than 1,000 times, and that meant he was effectively spreading pornography, he said.

Ai said the four women had posted the photograph "as a joke".

"We never even touched each other," Ai said. "It's nothing. Nobody will say that's pornography. I asked them why this is pornography. They said under our policy, if there's nudity, if people try to open a file many times, like over 1,000 times, that's pornography. They have a law like that, which is ridiculous."

Ai, who is married, also denies the charge of bigamy. He openly meets a girlfriend and has a three-year-old son from that relationship.

On the possible charge of "illicit exchange of foreign currency", Ai said police told him that it concerned a project in 2008, when he invited 100 foreign architects to Inner Mongolia and arranged for a Swiss gallery to pay them in euros, while he got yuan currency in return.

Ai, 55, said that when he asked police how long the investigation could take, he was told it could go on for "as long as they want it, it could be years".

"I feel this shows that they are trying to intimidate, trying to put pressure on a citizen to tell you who's the authority and still to punish me for doing what I've been doing," Ai said.

"I'm still paying a price for that, paying a price for freely communicating and discussing and giving out opinions and criticizing different matters."

Under the conditions of his release from 81 days in detention, Ai was not allowed to post anything on Twitter, travel or accept interviews for a year.

But the bearded artist has still been a persistent irritant to authorities, communicating with his supporters on Twitter and calling for a public forum to discuss a tax case.

The company that markets Ai's work is challenging a penalty of 15 million yuan ($2.4 million) for supposed tax evasion, a charge supporters have dismissed as trumped up. Police warned him to stay away from the hearing on Wednesday.

Ai said police told him on Thursday morning that he "should not talk to the press, you should not criticize the government".

Ai said he had consulted a lawyer.

"The lawyer said: they cannot do that, because once you're free from probation, you're a free man. If they want to charge you, they have to make a case," Ai said.

When Ai was detained, interrogators threatened to level charges of subversion, pornography and bigamy against him, he told Reuters earlier.

Police have not returned Ai's passport, he said, adding that they have also restricted the ability of his wife to travel.

Green Lantern's New Gay Light: Blake Likely Has 'Multicolored' Idea

'Maybe he'll get a multicolored costume and won't be green anymore,' the 'Green Lantern' actress jokes to MTV News.

DC Comics broke some very progressive ground earlier this month when they announced that hero Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, is gay. Naturally, the news made international headlines and was met with a myriad of different reactions, from outpourings of support to those of outrage and misunderstanding.

When MTV News caught up with "Green Lantern" actress Blake Lively recently as she promoted her latest film, "Savages," we asked for her thoughts on the subject, which was news to her.

"Cool!" Lively said, expressing her support for DC's monumental decision. "Maybe he'll get a multicolored costume and won't be green anymore," she added with a smile.

Lively brings up an excellent point: Not that the new writers or artists would ever completely do away with Lantern's signature green suit, but we can hope that they might add a few pieces of flair.

"He's going to be the leader of the team, this dynamic hero, he'll do anything to save people, the bravest man on the planet. Why not just make him gay as well?" said new "Lantern" writer James Robinson in an interview with USA Today. "What I really want to do with this character is make the fact that he's gay to be a part of who he is and not to be the one identifying aspect of him ... and have his humor and his bravery be as much or more a part of him as his sexuality."

Lively pointed out that Alan Scott is different from Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan from the 2011 movie and that the heroes come in all shapes and sizes. "There's lots of Green Lanterns," she said.

Robinson said this dynamic reimagining of Scott will eventually cross paths with Jordan, and they'll have very different personalities and abilities. "When they're firing their rings at the same time, you'll be able to tell which energy is which," he said. "That's a very important thing so that it sets them apart."

Check out everything we've got on "Green Lantern."

Ozarks Energy Psychologist Says 'Tapping' Treatment Erases PTSD Symptoms

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms-- gone.? At a time when military suicides are making headlines again it's the news so many have hoped for.? The army has averaged a suicide every day in 2012.

? PTSD is typically treated with anti-depressants and talk therapy, but an army report released late last year the counseling didn't work for half the soldiers.? A local life coach says she hasn't met a person she can't help yet.

? "The nightmares, daymares, whatever you want to call it.? The shakes, the sweats," they were haunting Justin Hefner when we met him three months ago.? He could barely talk about it.

? "No, no I don't feel comfortable talking about that," he told us then.

? So he started tapping about it.

? "I have this guilt," he repeats, as he taps his face and hands.

? Just a few minutes later: "On a scale of 0 to 10 how much guilt do you feel now?" Life coach Shelah Schenkel asks him.

? "I feel nothing," he replies, suddenly relaxed.

? Hefner says he now feels nothing when he thinks about mistakenly pointing a .50 caliber automatic rifle at an Iraqi child.? In fact he now says he feels nothing at all when he thinks of the war that left him so distraught he couldn't hold a job.

? "I think it changed him," Schenkel tells us.

? She's talking about tapping.? Schenkel is the only certified energy psychologist in the Ozarks.? The therapy she does with Hefner is called EFT.

? "That's an acronym for Emotional Freedom Technique."

? She says it can practically erase the symptoms of PTSD.? It works like acupuncture without the needles.? Depending on what form of energy psychology you subscribe to there are either 12 or 14 major meridians flowing through your body all the time, but you can tap into them by literally tapping on them in certain places.?

? "If you go through a traumatic event or something happens and there's a negative feeling or emotion typically those get locked in in an energy system in your body," says Schenkel.

? EFT is the key to unlocking the memory from the bad feeling it triggers.

? "Everybody thinks it's weird, even the people who do it with me think it's weird," but she swears it works and she has proof.

? "I love life; I feel great, less stress," explains Hefner.? He has a steady job.? Hefner says he finally tapped back into the man he was before the military.

? "It feels damn good," he concludes, grinning.

? Schenkel says the process is different for everyone.? Some have to repeat the tapping and chanting several times in one session until their negative feeling drops to 0 on a scale of 1 to 10.

? The American Pyschological Association as a whole hasn't backed the therapy because of a lack of research on its success rate.? The local chapter of the Wounded Warriors is behind EFT, though.? It's partnering with Schenkel to put on a seminar on PTSD June 27th, which is National PTSD Awareness Day.? It will be held at 1p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Springfield and is free and open to the public.

Sales of console and portable software ? the video games themselves ? fell 32 percent from a year earlier to $255 million, while sales of hardware fell 39 percent to $139 million. That was offset partly by a 7 percent increase in sales of accessories, to $122 million.

NPD also listed the top-selling games in May and said it was the first time since July 2010 that a PC-only game was a top seller for the month.

'Prometheus' Dictionary: Translations For Earth-Dwellers

If you're gearing up to see Ridley Scott's sci-fi flick for the first time, make sure you're well-versed in its extraterrestrial lingo.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Michael Fassbender in "Prometheus"
Photo: Twentieth Century Fox

If you're headed out to theaters this weekend to see Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," there are two likely explanations: You've been hounded by your friends who have already seen it with theories and a need for discussion or you're one of those friends and need to see it again.

Either way, "Prometheus" is a dense movie filled with symbolism, call-backs to the original "Alien," and mysteries with elliptical answers, so it might be best to go into the theater with a bit of a primer for what's about to happen.

Whether you're new to "Prometheus" or you're very familiar with the work of Weyland Industries, here are some things to consider before heading into the theater. There are no major spoilers here, but if you want to go into "Prometheus" completely fresh, you should probably stop reading.

Prometheus: The titan who molded man from clay and gave them fire, which he stole from the gods. As punishment, an eagle repeatedly ate his liver, which regenerated daily.

Weyland Industries: The corporation that funds the mission in "Prometheus," creators of the David 8 android, and antecedent to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the "Alien" films.

Peter Weyland: Founder of Weyland Industries, played by Guy Pearce.

David 8: An android programmed to assist human life and understand human emotions. He is played by Michael Fassbender in "Prometheus."

Xenomorph: This classic creature from "Alien" bleeds a corrosive acid. It is "a survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality." The perfect organism.

Space Jockey: An enormous, dead humanoid found at the beginning of "Alien" with his chest burst open, surrounded by xenomorph eggs.

Facehugger: A developmental stage of the classic "Alien" xenomorph. This creature attaches itself to a host's face and deposits an embryo in his or her stomach.

Chestburster: The phase after facehugger. Once an embryo fully develops, it will exit its host through the abdomen.

"Lawrence of Arabia": The 1962 David Lean film starring Peter O'Toole as T.E. Lawrence. This film appears in "Prometheus" and is the origin of such quotes as "Big things have small beginnings," "There is nothing in the desert and no man needs nothing," and "The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts."

LV223: An Earth-like moon where scientists travel to in "Prometheus" after finding star maps on several prehistoric drawings.

LV426: An inhospitable planetoid where the crew of the Nostromo encounter the Space Jockey and the xenomorph eggs.

Check out everything we've got on "Prometheus."

Study shows vitamin D and calcium reduce mortality but not vitamin D alone

A study recently published in the Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM) suggests that vitamin Dwhen taken with calciumcan reduce the rate of mortality in seniors, therefore providing a possible means of increasing life expectancy.

During the last decade, there has been increasing recognition of the potential health effects of vitamin D. It is well known that calcium with vitamin D supplements reduces the risk of fractures. The present study assessed mortality among patients randomized to either vitamin D alone or vitamin D with calcium. The findings from the study found that the reduced mortality was not due to a lower number of fractures, but represents a beneficial effect beyond the reduced fracture risk.

"This is the largest study ever performed on effects of calcium and vitamin D on mortality," said Lars Rejnmark, PhD, of Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark and lead author of the study. "Our results showed reduced mortality in elderly patients using vitamin D supplements in combination with calcium, but these results were not found in patients on vitamin D alone."

In this study, researchers used pooled data from eight randomized controlled trials with more than 1,000 participants each. The patient data set was comprised of nearly 90 percent women, with a median age of 70 years. During the three-year study, death was reduced by 9 percent in those treated with vitamin D with calcium.

"Some studies have suggested calcium (with or without vitamin D) supplements can have adverse effects on cardiovascular health," said Rejnmark. "Although our study does not rule out such effects, we found that calcium with vitamin D supplementation to elderly participants is overall not harmful to survival, and may have beneficial effects on general health".

###

Other researchers participating in the study were Alison Avenell, Tahir Masud, Frazer Anderson, Haakon E. Meyer, Kerrie M. Sanders, Kari Salovaara, Cyrus Cooper, Helen E. Smith, Elizabeth. T. Jacobs, David Torgerson, Rebecca D. Jackson, JoAnn E. Manson, Kim Brixen, Leif Mosekilde, John A. Robbins, Roger M. Francis, and Bo Abrahamsen.

The article "Vitamin D with calcium reduces mortality: patient level pooled analysis of 70,528 patients from eight major vitamin D trials", appears in the August 2012 issue of JCEM.

Other researchers participating in the study were Alison Avenell, Tahir Masud, Frazer Anderson, Haakon E. Meyer, Kerrie M. Sanders, Kari Salovaara, Cyrus Cooper, Helen E. Smith, Elizabeth. T. Jacobs, David Torgerson, Rebecca D. Jackson, JoAnn E. Manson, Kim Brixen, Leif Mosekilde, John A. Robbins, Roger M. Francis, and Bo Abrahamsen.

The article "Vitamin D with calcium reduces mortality: patient level pooled analysis of 70,528 patients from eight major vitamin D trials", appears in the August 2012 issue of JCEM.

Angry Birds Seasons updated, brings new levels and new game physics

Android Central

There are some things in life that truly are dependable. Christmas Day is December 25, day turns into night, and Rovio will keep giving us new Angry Birds levels. In the case of the latter, today we get yet more new levels, 30 to be exact, to the Angry Birds Seasons extravaganza. However, this time, things are a little bit different.

Piglantis, as the new levels are known, brings underwater action to the Angry Birds for the first time. As with Angry Birds Space, there is a whole new set of game physics to go along with the new territory -- hint, pigs don't float. No longer is it OK just to fire and be happy, you now need to work out how the birds will 'fly' while under the water. Nice. It's actually quite challenging in places, and a welcome departure from the regular gameplay.

The update is live in the Google Play Store now, so head on over, grab some goggles, and away you go.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) ? Shanshan Feng set two personal goals this year on the LPGA Tour. She reached them both with one memorable round.

Feng won the LPGA Championship on Sunday to become the first Chinese player to win an LPGA Tour title and a major event, closing with a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke victory.

"I am so excited right now," Feng said. "I did it! I don't know how to celebrate. It happened too soon. I'm going to miss my flight tomorrow. I might just go home. Who knows? I want to see my parents. I'm sure they want to see me."

More than likely.

The 22-year-old Feng, the only player from China on the tour, had the lowest round of the tournament at the right time and finished at 6-under 282.

Feng, who began the day three shots behind third-round leader Eun-Hee Ji, had a bogey-free round to etch her name in the record books, and her fourth top 10 of the year moved her to fifth in the world.

"For me, I never thought, 'I must win.' I knew I was three behind (at the start), so I knew I had a chance," said Feng, who began playing golf at age 10. "I was focusing on very shot. If I win, I win. If I don't, I don't. It just worked out."

Stacy Lewis, bidding to win her third straight stroke-play event on the LPGA Tour, shot a 70 to tie for second with Mika Miyazato, Suzann Pettersen and third-round leader Eun-Hee Ji. Miyazato shot 69, Pettersen 70, and Ji 72.

Karrie Webb, who started the day one shot behind Ji, had a 72 to finish at 3 under. Little-known Gerina Piller, a star in college at UTEP, and Ai Miyazato each shot 68 to also finish at 3 under.

Paula Creamer had a 71, and Giulia Sergas and Inbee Park shot 72 to finish another shot back.

Defending champion Yani Tseng had a closing 76 and was 13 over in a tournament she won a year ago by 10 shots.

Feng joined a growing list players who have broken through for their first career victory at the LPGA Championship. Anna Nordqvist in 2008 and Tseng in 2009 were the last two of the seven who have accomplished the feat.

"You knew it was coming at some point. I'm surprised she hasn't won out here," Lewis said. "She went out and won it. The goal was to go post a low number. That's what everybody was trying to do."

Over the first three days, Ji and Webb had notched the lowest score ? 68 ? on the Locust Hill Country Club course, its narrow fairways and long, thick rough providing a challenge worthy of a major.

Tseng last year and Cristie Kerr in 2010 won this tournament with 19-under scores, Kerr by a record 12 shots and Tseng by 10. With difficult conditions over the first three days, nobody was able to break away, and only 13 players began the day under par.

But under a blue sky with only the hint of a breeze, a breakthrough by somebody seemed likely. That it ended up being the only player from China with an LPGA card and no career wins didn't seem likely.

"Obviously, it means a lot for me because this is my fifth year on the tour," Feng said. "I was sad and I was even thinking, 'Can I win again?' I won twice on the Japanese tour last year and it helped a lot. It helped me to have confidence again. Now, I know I can win again."

Feng made five birdies without a bogey, hitting 11 of 14 fairways and reaching 16 greens in regulation. She even laughed with her caddie after barely missing a birdie putt at No. 16, probably because she didn't know she was nursing a one-shot lead over Mika Miyazato.

"I wasn't looking at the scoreboard," Feng said. "I was on 18th green and I looked at the board and I was leading. I couldn't believe it."

Feng didn't allow an errant drive into a fairway bunker at the par-5 17th hole get her down. She hit her third shot 12 feet from the pin and made birdie for a two-shot lead that nobody challenged. She closed with a par, hitting her drive right down the middle of the fairway on one of the most difficult scoring holes on the course.

Unfazed when her second shot found rough at the edge of the green, she chipped inside 2 feet and made par to secure the victory.

"There was nobody with us before 16," Feng said. "Then on 17 at least 10 media people were around us. 'OK, maybe I have a chance to win.' After I chipped (at 18), I looked at the board, so I knew I was leading."

The 26-year-old Ji is no stranger to Locust Hill, having captured her first career LPGA Tour victory here in the 2008 Wegmans LPGA, when the Rochester stop was a regular tour event.

She had eight pars and a bogey on the front side and a bogey at 10 dropped her three shots behind the leaders. She rallied on the back side with birdies at Nos. 13, 15, and 16 but couldn't keep it going over the final two holes.

Even with the gallery rooting hard, Creamer, a crowd favorite, was dreading this tournament because of the death in March of her 94-year-old grandfather, Tom, her biggest fan. She dropped on shot on the front nine and managed only one birdie on the back side.

The final twosome of Webb and Ji both hit great drives to start, and when Ji hit her second shot inside 8 feet, Webb duplicated it as a fan shouted "Game On!"

Ji missed, but Webb sank hers to tie for the lead at 4 under with Ji and Pettersen, who birdied the second and third holes.

Webb faltered with bogey at No. 3 as Pettersen continued a front-nine surge with a long birdie putt at the par-3 fifth hole. The long-hitting Norwegian star clenched her right fist and pulled her arm back in celebration as she gained sole possession of the lead at 5 under.

Feng had two birdies over her first six holes to move one shot behind and nearly took the outright lead at No. 8. But her eagle try slid just past the hole and she settled for a tie with Ji and Pettersen.

Pettersen won the 2007 LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock, beating Webb by one shot, but has had not-so-great moments in major play, having been a runner-up three times at Kraft Nabisco. The most painful was in 2007 when she lost to Morgan Pressel, blowing a four-shot lead over the final holes. She was solid on this day at the start and regained the lead with a birdie at No. 8, making the turn at 5 under.

A birdie by Feng at No. 12 moved her into a tie with Pettersen and the little-known Piller, who had only one top-10 finish since her rookie year two years ago.

Piller started the day at 1 over, five shots off the lead, but quickly made her way up the leaderboard with four birdies on the front side. Birdies at Nos. 11, 14 and 16 made her 9 under through a 19-hole stretch and moved her into a tie for the lead at 5 under.

But Piller found trouble at par-5 17th, which she eagled Saturday to begin her steady rise. She drove under a tree into the thick rough and her punch shot out clipped some leaves and she dropped two shots when her short bogey putt slid just past the cup.

Pettersen found rough on two straight shots at No. 13, chipped well past the pin and settled for bogey to fall one shot behind Feng. Pettersen drove the rough again at the 14th hole and again made bogey to fall two shots behind and never recovered.

Webb birdied No. 11 to reach 4 under again but gave it right back on the next hole when she drove into the rough and couldn't salvage par. Webb birdied Nos. 16 and 17, but like Ji her rush came too late.

Vardhan, Balaji in title round of ITF meet

Mysore June 8 (IANS) Vishnu Vardhan and Sriram Balaji virtually snatched victories from the jaws of defeat in the semi-finals to set up a title clash in the $10,000 Zuari Garden City Mysore ITF Open tennis tournament, here Friday.

Second seeded Vishnu Vardhan defeated No.3 and the Mandya Open finalist Vijayant Malik in an engrossing encounter 6-7(7), 6-2, 7-6 (4) in two hours, 28 minutes after trailing 4-5 and 0-30 in the decider.

In the other semi-final, seventh seed Balaji, after being just three points from defeat, beat eighth seeded Kittiphong Wachiramanowong from Thailand 4-6, 7-6(10), 7-5 in two hours, 40 minutes.

Sriram Balaji and Arun Prakash did an encore by winning the doubles title beating Kunal Anand and Ajai Selvaraj 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 in 58 minutes for their second successive triumph on the back of the Mandya Open title.

Vardhan looked certain to lose with Malik serving for the match in the final set. However, two costly double faults by Malik saw Vardhan bounce back into contention.

In the high voltage contest, Vishnu?s firepower with his blistering serve and strong forehand returns was matched by Malik?s steady and deep ground strokes.

The opening set went to serve and the inevitable tie-break where Malik jumped to a 4-1 lead to eventually prevail 9-7.

However, Vardhan came charging back with his solid serve and broke Malik in the sixth and the eighth games to wrap up the second set easily at 6-2.

In the decider it was Malik who called the shots initially when he broke in the fifth game and led 5-3. Serving for the match in the 10th game, he led 30-0. Vardhan came up with couple of winners and a double fault by Malik resulted in a deuce.

A flustered Malik committed a second double fault to drop his serve. Vardhan with the set tied at 5-all, blasted two aces for a 6-5 lead. Malik held serve to set up the tie-breaker.

In the tie break, Malik slumped to a 0-4 deficit with a contentious double-fault. Vardhan seized the chance and closed the set and match with Malik hitting wide off the baseline after a superb rally.

Balaji too wriggled out of a tight spot to beat the Thai Davis Cupper. Both played tenacious tennis from the back court, but Balaji was a lot more consistent than an error prone Kittiphong.

In the first set, both traded early breaks with Kittiphong winning the first and Balaji the second. Kittiphong gained a decisive break in the seventh for the first set.

In the second set, both held on to the serve till the tie break that Balaji won 12-10. Kittiphong was in driver seat in the decider leading 5-2 with a break in the sixth. Later, he was serving for the match at 5-3 before heavy showers cried halt to the play.

After the play resumed in 40 minutes, Kittiphong seemed to have lost his rhythm as Balaji charged back and broke his serve in the ninth game and sealed the set with yet another break in the 11th game and served out the match.
