Rumor: Hulu Will Soon Require Viewers To Have A Cable Subscription [Update: It'll Happen, But Not "Soon"]

huluIf you love watching TV shows on Hulu but don't have a cable subscription, things could get a bit more complicated in the near future. According to the New York Post, Hulu could soon start requiring its users to prove that they also have a cable or satellite subscription. This would obviously turn Hulu's current business model on its head. It's not clear how many of the service's 31 million users currently don't have a cable or satellite subscription, but chances are that the service's audience would shrink after this move.

Kim Kardashian: The Next Sofia Vergara?!?

This is all your fault, 30 Rock.

A few days after Kim Kardashian made a cameo on one of that show's live episodes, sources tell The New York Post that this reality star is interested in becoming a "comedy actress."

“She really wants to be the next Sofia Vergara," the insider says.

It is true that Kim and the Modern Family star have two, large, bouncy things in common. Compare them below and then decide: Which would you prefer to rail?

Aside from the 30 Rock appearance, Kardashian has booked a recurring role this summer on Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva, and she'll also play a character in The Marriage Character, an upcoming film from Tyler Perry.

“Acting is something she wants to do just for her,” claims the Kardashian mole. “Kim wants to do something that wouldn’t involve her sisters."

Foursquare adds NFC to its BlackBerry app, hopes you'll touch base

Hot on the heels of a recent update for its Twitter app, BlackBerry users can now grab a refreshed version of everyone's favorite check-in network. While there's no news of the beleaguered phone manufacturer offering up free Butterfingers (yet), the geographical social app has cranked up the app's load speeds and also transplants its notifications to your BlackBerry inbox. It's all looking to be a pretty tasty NFC carrot to dangle in front of BlackBerry World attendees later this week in Orlando. If you're Florida-bound (and even if you're not), you can grab the update from from the source below.

FAA writing rules for electric aircraft, to allow public to fly them in the next decade

FAA writing rules for electric aircraft, to allow public to fly them in the next decade

There are those in the general aviation community who think electric planes are the future for private aircraft, but regulatory hurdles are in place preventing them from proliferating in our skies. You see, current FAA requirements for light sport aircraft (LSA) -- planes that can be flown by anyone with a pilot's license -- preclude electric powerplants, and that makes such planes unavailable to most private pilots. Well, today at the CAFE Electric Aircraft Symposium, FAA analyst Tom Gunnarson delivered some good news for flying EV advocates, stating that the FAA has completed its regulatory study on electric aircraft, and the rulemaking process will begin soon. Once those rules have been written, electrically-propelled aircraft will be available for use as LSA by the public, which isn't possible today given their current status as experimental craft. The bad news? Governmental wheels spin slowly, and Gunnarson said that incorporating those new rules into the current regulatory framework will take five years if we're lucky, but ten years is a more likely time frame for the FAA to finish. In the meantime, you'll have to settle for air shows or terrestrial transport to get your EV fix.

Former MakerBot exec launches Solidoodle sub-$500 3D printer

Image

Let's be honest -- we all want a a 3D printer to call our own, right? Price has always been a significant barrier to the dream of printing pretty much everything your imagination can conjure (barring some hardware limitations, of course). For its part, MakerBot has made some significant strides toward tearing some of those barriers, and now Solidoodle, led by that company's former COO Samuel Cervantes, is looking to take the trend even further. The company's current self-tilted model starts at just under $500. The printer, which is now up for pre-order, can print plastic pieces up to 6" x 6" x 6", and "all you need to supply is a computer and power." Also, interestingly, "a 200-pound man can literally stand on top of the machine while it's printing. " So, that's a bonus. Check out a video of the printer in action after the break.

Tony Lucca Channels Britney Spears on The Voice

Cheesa's Whitney Houston cover brought the house down, but Tony Lucca's unorthodox song choice also served notice that he's a contender on The Voice:

"Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.

Lucca, who was famously slammed by Christina Aguilera a few weeks back, came up with a terrific rebuttal against his fellow former Mousketeer.

This rocking version of Brit's breakout hit:

"That was really smart," Blake Shelton said of the bold song pick, which got him through until at least tonight. His coach, Adam Levine, added, "You did something different and refreshing and I'm so proud of you for having the courage to do it."

Will America vote Tony through to the semifinals tonight?

If not, do you think Adam (who cut Pip loose on last night's instant elimination episode) will take his protege to the next round? Tell us below.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner completes first Trans-Pacific passenger flight, lands in Boston as JAL 8

Boeing 787 Dreamliner completes first Trans-Pacific passenger flight, lands in Boston as JAL 8

We've been fortunate enough to hitch a ride on Boeing's 787 within the Land of the Rising Sun, but now the Dreamliner has hopped the Pacific with passengers on board, departing Tokyo Narita and landing at Boston's Logan International Airport around noon on Sunday. The JAL service marks New England's first Asia route, enabled by the 787's efficient design which lets airlines fly to lower-demand cities without wasting fuel on empty seats. The 787 will be making the 6,869-mile journey four times a week through May 31st, at which point daily service will begin, with flight 7 departing Boston at 1:20PM and arriving in Tokyo at 4 the following afternoon. Passengers on flight 8 will leave Tokyo at 11:30AM and land in Boston at 11:20AM on the same day. This is likely to be your best opportunity to ride a US-bound Dreamliner until United begins service later this year, so hit up the source link to get your fix, priced upwards of $1,500 for dates throughout the summer.

Premium Finance Loan Companies in the U.S.

Insurance premium financing arrangements have become a great deal more prevalent over the past few years. This is especially true for agents who work with high net worth policy holders who have a low amount of liquidity available for paying the large policy premiums that are due.

These types of premium loan agreements are a nice alternative to these wealthy individuals as they would otherwise likely need to obtain the needed cash by selling off personal or business assets.

Over time, as these types of transactions come more into the limelight, it will be necessary for insurance professionals to either move into this industry as well, or to delegate this particular responsibility to an already established expert in the premium financing field.

Why Partner with a Premium Finance Loan Company?

The reasons for insurance professionals to partner with a premium finance loan company are many. First, these firms or individuals can literally take the transaction from start to finish ? leaving you the time and flexibility to focus on your specific business.

These companies will take care of arranging all of the necessary paperwork for the financing arrangement, and oftentimes the companies will also be the actual lender of the borrowed funds as well.

Once the arrangement is in place, the premium finance loan company will often stay on board, taking on the responsibility of the ongoing duties such as making premium payments for the insured?s policy as well as billing the policy holder for the premium loan repayments.

There are a number of rules and regulations that go hand in hand with premium finance agreements. In addition, many of the requirements in one state may differ a great deal from those in another.

In any case, all persons and organizations that transact any type of insurance premium loan financing must become licensed in every state in which they conduct business. Thus, by partnering with such an entity, insurance agents and brokers may pass along this requirement to the premium financing organization.

Some of the Top Premium Finance Loan Companies in the United States

Although the premium financing niche is still relatively new and unknown to many, there are a number of top companies that are active in the industry ? and a number of these firms possess several decades of experience in the field.

While there are premium financing specialists located throughout the nation, it is typically best to work with a company or individual that is both licensed and has a location in the clients? state of residence. This way, you can be more assured that the financing arrangement will comply with the specific state?s rules. In addition, this will offer much more convenience should any in-person meetings be required with the client / policy holder.

To find your next premium financing partner, contact any the companies that are listed below. These firms can provide you with the guidance that you need, even for those hard to place deals. Help can typically be found via phone and online chat, and quotes can usually be obtained by submitting a no obligation application directly on the companies? websites.

Last week's Switched On discussed the Slacker Portable, Sony eMarker and TrafficGauge, three dedicated devices that didn't make it but saw their functionality ultimately realized via smartphones. Tips For Flacks From A Former Hack

nick gonzalezThere are two kinds of stories: great ones and the ones that have to be pitched. This article isn?t about great stories. I have a lot of fond memories from TechCrunch -- being there when the YouTube acquisition broke, covering the rise of Y Combinator, and generally speaking to people a recent college grad had no right chatting with, let alone interrogating about their company. However, getting pitched wasn?t one of them. Pitching the press is a lot like trying to close any other business deal -- sans the excitement of any money changing hands. In fact, "selling" a pitch means creating more work for the writer, who has to dig into the details of your pitch and craft a story.

Panels Are A Waste Of Time, But They Don?t Have To Be

trashtimeTwo years ago, when I first co-founded Earbits, I started frequenting various startup events like so many other first-time founders. Some of them were mixers, others were pitch competitions, and many were topic-focused panels and discussions meant to provide sage advice to budding entrepreneurs. I had reasonable experience on the ground floor of various startups but raising capital was a mystery to me. Naturally, I went to more than a few panel discussions about fundraising in preparation for doing that at my new company. Every panel I ever went to about fundraising was filled with prominent Angel investors and VC's telling us about how to put together a good deck, how to get their attention through a warm intro, what kinds of things make a company invest-able, and other very common fundraising advice. After having read all of the same advice on Both Sides of the Table and Venture Hacks, I found that most fundraising panels were a complete waste of time.

The Gaming Addiction ? foxtail studio

From the New York Times:

Some people argue that Zynga?s signature games ? FarmVille, FishVille ? shouldn?t even be called games. As Nicholas Carlson of the Web site Business Insider wrote: ?They are click-machines powered by the human need to achieve progress by a predictable path and a willingness to pay small amounts of money to make that progress go faster. They are not ?games.? ? But you could argue that games like FarmVille are in fact just the logical end of gamification: gamified games. They have the appearance of games, they inspire the compulsions of games, but for many people they are not fun like games.

Bob Weinstein's wife files for divorce in NY

(AP) ? The wife of film producer Bob Weinstein has filed for divorce in New York and is seeking an order of protection.

Court papers say Anne Weinstein is seeking the protection order because she fears "bodily harm."

A spokesman for Bob Weinstein says his wife was reacting to a family intervention to get her to deal with a drinking problem. He says there is no abuse.

The two married in 2000. Anne Weinstein is a former book editor. They have two children.

Bob Weinstein and his brother Harvey are New York natives and Hollywood mainstays who run their own film company after breaking off from Disney and Miramax, which they helped found. They have been involved highly successful films such as "Pulp Fiction," ''The English Patient," and "Shakespeare in Love."
